The Rudeboy Origin Story

Black Rudeboy Hughie Origin T-Shirt with Hubert Neal Jr.'s childhood photo, set against a Chicago street scene.

I’m Hubert Neal Jr., but to my family, I'm simply Hughie. The powerful photo on this tee was taken when I was five years old in Chicago, the city where I was born and raised. Though I grew up in the Midwest, my family comes from the heart of Belize, Central America, and that heritage is everything. This image is the visual anchor for everything I've pursued, and now, it’s the graphic that defines the Rudeboy Hughie Origin T-Shirt. When you rock this unisex graphic tee, you’re not just wearing a piece of urban streetwear; you’re carrying the energy of the journey: the journey of an immigrant family planting roots in a new city, and the global path of an artist who refused to be contained. My heritage is the foundation, Chicago is the hustle, and that duality is the soul of Rudeboy Creative Studio.

From Fine Art to Wearable Art: My Unstoppable Vision

My whole life has been dedicated to telling stories through visual art. It’s what drove me through my education, earning a Diploma in Visual Arts from The Chicago Academy for the Arts where I was also the first Headmaster’s Award winner (1995) and a BFA in Fine Art from The School of Architecture Art & Planning at Cornell University (2000), and it’s what continues to take me across the world. For years, I’ve been fortunate to share my work, often powerful social critiques and explorations of identity, in galleries from Los Angeles to Jamaica, through solo exhibitions like "Nothing To See Here" and major fairs like Expo Chicago and Spring/Break. The truth is, my approach to canvas and my approach to this T-shirt are one and the same: they are meant to provoke, to tell an honest story, and to be undeniably authentic. This tee is simply a new medium for my fine art vision, a piece of wearable history for those who appreciate true, uncompromised artistic integrity.

Rudeboy: Forged in Fire, Built on Integrity

The vision for Rudeboy has always been mine, and that commitment was tested early on. Years ago, I brought the idea for a T-shirt company to a family member so we could create, build, and grow something together. They ended up taking the concept and trying to run with it on their own. While that was a hard moment, it cemented my resolve. I was absolutely determined to make sure I did Rudeboy, and that I did it right. I was not going to let a setback derail my purpose. Rudeboy Creative Studio is built on that determination, on that creative fire, and on the unshakeable belief in owning your own narrative. When you see my work, whether it’s on a gallery wall or on this powerful tee, you are seeing the result of a vision that was fought for and won. Wear the Rudeboy Hughie Origin T-Shirt and join the movement that values authenticity above all else.
